TRANSATLANTICA

SYNOPSIS

TRANSATLANTICA is a visceral and poetic solo by Caroline Alves, where dance and storytelling intertwine to confront the gaps in colonial history. On stage, the body and water engage in a dialogue with ancestry, erasure, and resistance: a massive block of crystalline ice evokes the cold of absence and the weight of untold stories, connecting displaced bodies with the vast expanse of the transatlantic ocean. Through the story of Senhorinha, an Indigenous woman erased from her family’s history—as are many Indigenous women across Brazil and the Global South—Caroline brings the absence to life through movements that trace both loss and the reimagining of forgotten ties. It is a journey through silenced histories, where movement disrupts stillness and recreates memories "frozen" by colonial history.
